Aren't I doing so if I say I will withhold my vote unless he or she supports a Constitutional fix to private and corporate money in politics?
It’s a matter of priorities and values. Do you want a Big Fix to an atrocious situation? If so, you need to apply some very temporary tough love to liberate your lawmakers to work solely for you and the common good. As noted, we think of this as an intervention for addicts, many of whom will ultimately welcome it, and a sure cure for a diseased system. These are addicts from both political parties and so your favored candidates are not likely to suffer more than their opponents UNLESS their opponent has endorsed the reform amendments. We want to make it clear to all lawmakers that to protect themselves, they need to endorse and commit to a new politics in America, one not purchased by big donors.
Moreover, whatever your opinions about various government issues, wouldn’t you like to see them handled by a system whose outcome IS NOT as susceptible to control by campaign financers? What could be more important?
Also, ask yourself this: Why wouldn’t your federal and state lawmakers sign on for this Great Cooperation to Begin America Again, when they can reclaim your vote simply with one vote of their own? Why would they hold back? Don’t they owe you an honest system? Isn’t it far more important that the foundation of the house be solid before the furniture is moved around? Isn’t it clear we need to Re-Found this country on a campaign finance basis that lives up to our values and needs? Why should lawmakers resist this concept?
